Pakan (GPS: 1.81082, 111.71376) is a small town in
Julau district, in the
Sarikei Division of Sarawak. Most of its people - almost 97% - are Ibans, with Chinese forming the biggest minority group - a mere 2.5%.
The origin of the name Pakan comes from a fruit that grows abundantly in that area. It is said that the Pakan fruit resembles the
durian. There is a monument to the Pakan fruit along Jalan Entabai. You can see it as you enter the town.
