Serian (GPS: 1.16703, 110.5665) is a Bidayuh village located 65 km to the southeast of Kuching. It is one of the destinations along the Pan Borneo Highway, which passes through the major towns of Sarawak on its way north to Brunei and Sabah. Serian has a busy market place where tourists from the surrounding longhouses come to sell their produce. This is a good place to people-watch the locals and take a peek at what they have brought down to sell - anything from snake meat to sago grubs are normal fare to them. If you are on your way to visit a longhouse along the nearby rivers, Serian is a good place to stopover to buy a gift to offer to the headman, or something for the kids in the longhouse.

The roundabout at the market place has a Durian Monument. Another sight worth checking out is Serian Lake, which has scenic views all around.

Getting there

Take STC Bus Nos. 3 or 3A from Kuching. The journey takes one hour and the fare is RM5.00. The bus will deposit you right at the heart of the village.

Serian is on the map of Towns in Sarawak

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
