Serian (GPS: 1.16703, 110.5665) is a Bidayuh village located 65 km to the southeast of
Kuching. It is one of the destinations along the
Pan Borneo Highway, which passes through the major towns of Sarawak on its way north to Brunei and Sabah. Serian has a busy market place where tourists from the surrounding longhouses come to sell their produce. This is a good place to people-watch the locals and take a peek at what they have brought down to sell - anything from snake meat to sago grubs are normal fare to them. If you are on your way to visit a longhouse along the nearby rivers, Serian is a good place to stopover to buy a gift to offer to the headman, or something for the kids in the longhouse.
The roundabout at the market place has a Durian Monument. Another sight worth checking out is Serian Lake, which has scenic views all around.
