Klang District, Selangor

Klang District or Daerah Kelang, is the most important shipping district for Selangor. It includes the many coastal islands of Selangor, and is bordered by Kuala Selangor district to the north, Petaling District to the east, and Kuala Langat to the south.

Towns in the Klang Distric include Klang Town, Port Klang, Pandamaran, Telok Menegun, Bukit Kemuning, Kapar, Meru, Bandar Sultan Sulaiman and Kampung Batu Empat. Part of Shah Alam is also within Klang District.

The town of Klang is one of the oldest towns in Malaysia. It served as the Royal Town of Selangor and State Capital in 1874. As of 2010, Klang District has a population of 861,189 people, with Malaysians comprising 91.06% (784,212), Of this, 43.73% (376,606) are Malays, 26.18% (225,425) Chinese and 19.20% (165,382) Indians.1
