Petaling District, or Daerah Petaling, is the most urbanized district of Selangor. It is located to the west of Kuala Lumpur, which is shares a border. It also borders on Kuala Selangor district to the northwest, Gombak to the northeast, Sepang district to the south and Klang district to the west.
Petaling District is the most densely populated district in Selangor, and possibly the whole country. It comprises four subdistricts, or mukim, namely Sungai Buloh, Damansara, Petaling and Bukit Raja. The district has a population of 1,181,034 based on the 2005 statistics.1. There are three local authorities in this district, namely the Subang Jaya Municipal Council, the Petaling Jaya City Council and the Shah Alam City Council.
