Selangor Turf Club (GPS: 3.04568, 101.71182) a race course in Selangor. It is located in Sungai Besi, through technically outside the border of Kuala Lumpur and within Selangor.

The Selangor Turf Club has a history going back to the late 19th century. The reorganisation of the Selangor Gymkhana Club brought about the formation of the Selangor Turf Club, under the patronage of then British Resident of Selangor, Sir Frank Swettenham. It became the member of the Straits Racing Association on 1 January, 1896. The first race at the club took place in March, 1896. In 1906, membership was 15 dollars a year, and there were 300 members. Racing at the turf club was halted during both world wars, though during the First World War, races were held as a means of raising fund for the war.

The Selangor Turf Club relocated to its present site in Sungai Besi in 1992. The last race in the Ampang site was held in August of that year. After that, the old site began its redevelopment to become the present KLCC.

The relocation of the Selangor Turf Club brought it out of Kuala Lumpur and into Selangor territory, into a Sungai Besi neighbourhood now called Serdang Raya, which is under Seri Kembangan. Sungai Besi itself is across the border in Kuala Lumpur.

The race course at the present Selangor Turf Club site measures 2000 meters long and 30 meters wide. It is planted with the El Toro Zoysia turf grass.

Selangor Turf Club is on the map of Seri Kembangan

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
