Senai International Airport (14 September, 2016)
Senai International Airport (GPS: 1.6357, 103.66565; JHB) is the airport for the city of Johor Bahru. It is also known as the Sultan Ismail International Airport. It is one of the hubs of AirAsia. Senai Airport is presently able to handle 4.5 million passengers per year, with plans afoot to increase it to 10 million a year.
Senai International Airport was opened in 1974. Its purpose is to provide a gateway for flights to the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia, which until then has been using the airport in Singapore. Among the airlines flying to Senai are Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Firefly. Together, they connect Johor Bahru with Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok, Miri, Sibu, Jakarta and Surabaya.
Leaving the Airport
Apart from renting a car, you can either take the bus or the taxi to leave the airport. There are buses that goes to Larkin Bus Terminal (RM3.20) and the City Lounge at Kotaraya II Bus Terminal (RM8.00) in Johor Bahru. From the City Lounge, you can also take the Causeway Link bus to Kranji MRT Station (RM1.00) and Queen Street Bus Station (RM2.40) in Singapore.
15 Dec 2009 Update
Aero Mall, a shopping mall adjacent to the terminal building is presently under construction and will be ready by the first quarter of 2010. The mall, costing RM93 million, is the first external standalone airport mall in the country. It will increase the retail area at Senai Airport from 2,601 sq ft to 7,745 sq ft, with the addition of 25 retail outlets including MPH Bookstore, Kinsahi Japanese Restaurant, KFC, Sox World and Starbucks.
