Daerah Dungun, Terengganu (1 May 2017)
Daerah Dungun is a district in the south-central part of
Terengganu. It is bordered by
Kemaman to the south,
Marang and
Hulu Terengganu districts to the north, and Pahang to the west. It faces the coast of the South China Sea to the east.
The district capital of Daerah Dungun is
Dungun, also called Kuala Dungun, a former iron-mining town. Remnants of the mining railway can still be seen today. Located at Bukit Besi, Dungun, it has become a sight of tourist interest.
Today the economy of Dungun is supported by the petroleum industry, centered on the town of
Kerteh. The beach resort at
Tanjung Jara was developed to provide recreational facilities to the staff of the petroleum industry.
