The Masjid al-Haram Replica of Taman Tamadun Islam, Kuala Terengganu, is a replica of the most important mosque in the Muslim world. Masjid al-Haram, which means "The Sacred Mosque" is the mosque which all Muslims endeavor to visit, at least once in their lifetime, on a pilgrimage known as the Hajj. Having been expanded a number of times, it is today the biggest mosque in the world, covering 88 acres in Mecca.
Replica of Masjid al-Haram at Taman Tamadun Islam, Kuala Terengganu (19 February 2011)
Masjid al-Haram is built to surround the Kaaba, the cube-shaped shrine towards which all Muslim face in prayer. At its northeastern corner is the Black Stone, a sacred relic said to be date back to the time of Adam and Eve. During the Hajj, pilgrims circle the Kaaba in a counter-clockwise direction seven times, a ritual known as Tawaf. They attempt - if possible - to approach and kiss the Black Stone, following Islamic tradition emulating the kiss it received from the Prophet Muhammad.
The Masjid a-Haram at Taman Tamadun Islam also includes a virtual Hajj, giving visitors an idea of the pilgrimage. At the time of my visit, the virtual Hajj gallery was under construction. To learn more about this mosque, please visit my page on the actual Masjid al-Haram in Mecca.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
