Paka (GPS: 4.62655, 103.43799) is a small town on the coast in Terengganu. It is located to the north of
Kerteh. Both are the oil towns of Terengganu. While Kerteh is the base overseeing the petroleum operations, Paka is where crude oil refining is carried out. As of 2009, the town has a population of just over 10,000.

There is nothing much to see of Paka, except for the turtle sanctuary managed by the World Wide Fund for Nature at Ma'Daerah, between Paka and Kerteh. The beach is gorgeous, if you come on a clear day.

When I visited, it was in the midst of the monsoon. The sea was rough and stormy. Every now and then we had to dive back into the car, as the rain had come. But despite the bad weather, it was a most enjoyable and memorable trip.
