The snow white sand of Pulau Perhentian Kecil (4 September, 2004)
Pulau Perhentian Kecil (GPS: 5.9065, 102.72251) is the smaller of the two major islands in the Perhentian archipelago which also includes Pulau Susu Dara, Pulau Rawa and Pulau Serenget. It is accessible by boat from Kuala Besut.
Pulau Perhentian Kecil does not have any major resorts and a couple of guest houses and chalets along Pasir Panjang, the main stretch of white sandy beach which faces east, in the direction of Pulau Perhentian Besar. One can go between Pulau Perhentian Kecil and Pulau Perhentian Besar by boat, a journey that takes only ten minutes.
Kampung Pasir Puteh is the only Malay fishing village in Perhentian. It is located on Pulau Perhentian Kecil overlooking Pulau Perhentian Besar. The Malaysian Navy also has its base here.
Most boats to Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil leave the jetty at Kuala Besut, a town on the Terengganu mainland. You can book your trip to the Perhentian islands from the tour agencies upon arrival at Kota Bharu airport. Taxi from the airport to the jetty is around RM60 for four persons. Take note that you also have to pay a RM5 marine park fee, valid for three days. This can be obtained at the jetty - keep the receipt in case you need to show it.
You will find that it is cheaper to book a package to Perhentian than to go there independently. Packages typically include accommodation as well as boat transfers, with some, all or no meals, and at least one snorkelling trip. Gear such as snorkelling equipment is either provided or available for rent at an additional cost.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
