Terengganu Inscription Stone is the oldest Malay artifact to be written in Jawi. It was discovered by accident in a village at Sungai Tersat, Kuala Berang in 1899 by an Arab trader, Sayid Husin bin Ghulam al-Bokhari, after a flash floor in Kuala Berang. Until the value of the Terengganu Inscription Stone was appreciated, it was used as a stone mat for entering the house. As a result, part of it chipped away. The Terengganu Inscription Stone is said to have been written in Arabic Malay on 22 February, 1303, making it the oldest Malay writing in Jawi in existence.
The Terengganu State Government has been lobbying for the Terengganu Inscription Stone to be returned to the state. It was eventually returned in 1991, and is now on display at the Terengganu State Museum.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
