Yak Yah Firefly Sanctuary (GPS: 4.30672, 103.37444) is a place along the Yak Yah River in Kampung Ibok, Terengganu, that has been developed for firefly watching. Sungai Yak Yah, or Yak Yah River, is located about 11 km from Chukai. The river is said to have the biggest concentration of fireflies in Malaysia.
As with other firefly-watching sites, visitors are taken on a boat ride through the river. The boat ride is conducted in the evenings usually from 8 pm to 12 pm, best on moonlit nights. The best time to go is between July and September, when the fireflies have their mating season. The boat fee, at time of writing, is RM25 per adult and RM12.50 per child.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
