Man & Turtles (GPS: 5.42093, 100.38172) is a mural by Argentinian artist Martin Ron. Officially known as "Swim In The Air", it graces a wall of a commercial lot at Taman Perusahaan Raja Uda. Martin was invited over to Penang by Hin Bus Depot Art Centre and Wooley Development Sdn Bhd. This is his first mural in Penang, and is believed to also be the first mural on Penang Mainland.

Man & Turtle Mural, as it nears completion (19 March 2015)
The Man & Turtles Mural depicts a man with outstretched arm apparently feeding a school of turtles that are swimming around. The mural is intended to represent the state's turtle conservation effort.
I have an opportunity to meet up with Martin and his team on site on 19 March, 2015. I was brought to see the mural by Fred Pui, who was instrumental in connecting the artist to the wall, which is on the office unit belonging to a friend of his, Richard Woo. So I decided to take a photo of Fred connecting with the mural.

The person appearing in the mural is not drawn from imagination. He is Matt @ Skippy, an Australian who is in Martin's team. During my visit, I also get to meet Skippy. As the mural faces south, I timed my visit for the afternoon, to take advantage of the afternoon sun. However it was too hot a time to do any painting, so the artist and his team (he also has others helping with touching ups) took a rest at Richard's office.

In addition to Skippy and the turtles, Martin has also added a new other human subjects to the painting. The two girls on the right side of the mural are Fred's daughters. He took them to see the painting, and Martin decided to include them as well.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
