Masjid Jamek Sungai Tiram, Bayan Lepas, Penang (3 February 2019)
Masjid Jamek Sungai Tiram (GPS: 5.30135, 100.27408) is a mosque for the village of
Sungai Tiram in
Bayan Lepas, Penang. Its official name is
Masjid Al-Mustagheirin. At the time that it was founded, the mosque was surrounded by a village, with small lanes going in from the main road of Bayan Lepas. Today the main road, renamed
Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, is a busy road connecting the
Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone to the
Penang International Airport.
Masjid Jamek Sungai Tiram has moved according to the time. No longer is it a small, wooden structure. The mosque has been expanded and rebuilt in bricks. Development is engulfing the mosque, which result in the traditional village being swept away. In 2019, a new mosque building replaced the previous one.
