Merlin Nasi Kandar (GPS: 5.4194, 100.34176) is a popular nasi kandar stall in George Town, Penang. It is housed in the coffee shop of the eponymous Merlin Hotel, a budget hotel at the corner of Union Street with Penang Street.

Merlin Hotel, at 1A Penang Street, is a budget hotel housed in a four-storey building that was built in the early modern style. It has horizontal lines that wrap themselves from Union Street to the corner at Penang Street. The hotel once shared the same name with the larger Hotel Merlin, today the Bayview Hotel Georgetown.

The Merlin Nasi Kandar was my second favourite nasi kandar stall along Union Street until my favourite, which was housed in a now defunct coffee shop at Logan Building was no longer operating. I still enjoy coming here for nasi kandar from time to time. The nasi kandar dishes that I usually order include fish curry, beef, hard-boiled egg and brinjal.

Getting there

The nearest bus stop is along Light Street. The bus stop is served by Rapid Penang bus 103, 204, 502 and CAT. From the bus stop, walk down Penang Street till you see Merlin Hotel on your left.
