Methodist Boys' School/Anglo-Chinese School Union (4 May 2013)
Methodist Boys School/Anglo-Chinese School Union is a school union with its premises along Penang Road, in
George Town, Penang. It is housed in a 5-storey Early Modern-style building which also houses a Chinese hotel hotel, Singapore Hotel.
The school union is even older than the building itself, having been established in 1906. At that time, the
Methodist Boys School, or Anglo-Chinese School as it was then known, was located at nearby Maxwell Road, where
Komtar and the
Pacific Hypermarket are located today. It is housed in a bungalow and the headmaster Reverend G.F. Pykett, served as the first president of the union.
I learn that the Methodist Boys' School Union still owns the entire block, and that the union is still operating out of this building.
