Ernest Zacharevic's Minions Bollard, Soo Hong Lane (10 August 2013)


The Minions/Bart Simpson Bollard (5.41547, 100.33775) is a traffic bollard on Soo Hong Lane in George Town, Penang. It became a local landmark after Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic painted two minions on it in 2013. As the bollard is located at the high-density bottleneck within the heritage enclave of George Town, it became a popular photoshooting site.

However, due to the natural wear-and-tear, the paint of the original Minions bollard rapidly came off. A year later, Zacharevic repainted the bollard, this time replacing the minions with Marge Simpson, the mother character from The Simpsons. However, as soon as the repainting was done, already the original blue paint that was Marge's beehive hair-do was gone, not clear whether due to the heavy rainpour or was it the work of someone who wanted to preserve the Minions. As a result, both the Minions and Marge Simpsons now share space on the bollard.
