Mission House Museum (2 July 2014)
Mission House Museum (GPS: 5.423147, 100.334527) is a museum being set up at 35 Farquhar Street, in
George Town, Penang. The building was once known as Mission House. It was part of a complex known as the
Farquhar Street Mission House and Chapel, an ensemble that was the earliest premises for the brethren assemblies in this region. The Farquhar Street Chapel made way for road widening in the late 1930s, while Mission House stands until today.
The restored Mission House faithfully preserves the original appearance of the building. It comprises the building proper and a porch. On the ground floor, the exterior comprises a series of arches some with double-doors. Above these are full-length French windows. Above the porch, the façade is entirely made of wood, with each side lined with a row of wooden shutters with louvres. Right below the pediment is a pothole-shaped air vent.
