S.J.K. (C) Moh Ghee (Pusat), Penang (9 June 2012)
Moh Ghee Primary School (GPS: 5.4033, 100.31684), known today as
SJKC Moh Ghee (Pusat) (Simplified Chinese: 慕义华小(总)校, Traditional Chinese: 慕義華小(總)校, or simply
Moh Ghee Primary School, is a Chinese-medium co-educational primary school along
Perak Lane, in George Town, Penang.
Moh Ghee Primary School today has about 250 pupils and 16 teachers. The school is ideal for primary pupils in the
Perak Road and
Jelutong areas. It is however within just a stone's throw from another Chinese-medium primary school, the
Sum Sun Primary School.
Moh Ghee Primary School traces its history to 1918, when it was established through the funding of local businessmen and pillars of society. It began as a small attap shed in Jelutong. The Second World War caused an interruption to the running of the school, forcing its closure during the duration of the Japanese Occupation.
After the war was over, there was a high number of school-going children in Jelutong who needed to be educated. As the original site was deemed insufficient, a new one-acre site along Perak Lane was donated by local businessmen, and the new school building was completed in August, 1949. With the completion of the new school, Moh Ghee split into two schools, with the Perak Lane campus becoming known as Moh Ghee (Main) while the one at Jelutong became
Moh Ghee Branch School.
