Monroe Restaurant (GPS: 5.423904, 100.320775) is a themed restaurant in George Town, Penang. It is one of the two dining outlets at 1926 Heritage Hotel on Burmah Road. Monroe Restaurant pays homage to the blonde bombshell of the 1950s, Norma Jeane Mortenson, who went by the screen name of Marilyn Monroe. It is therefore unsurprising that Monroe's memorabilia are all over the restaurant.

Besides serving excellent Western fare as reasonable prices, Monroe Restaurant is particularly happening on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as it is one of the few venues with a live band and a dance floor. In the past couple of years, the restaurant has become a popular a watering hole for the locals to dance to catchy evergreen songs. Of the three nights, Friday is the most crowded, and reservations are necessary for that night. It is also encouraged that you make reservations for Saturday and Sunday night.

Here's the newly revamped menu of Monroe Restaurant introduced in August 2018.

The food at Monroe Restaurant

During our visit on 11 August, 2018, we were treated by its owner Daniel to items which will be featured on his new menu, which will be launched on 1 September, 2018. Everything was so delicious. We had Seafood Stuffed Fish Fillet, Cajun Chicken Pasta, Mediterranean Beef Ribs, Spicy Creamy Butter Chicken and Creamy Salmon Spinach.

Daniel was concerned that we took so long taking photos of the food, that it would all get cold, but we assured him that we are quite used to it, and we still enjoyed the food nonetheless. I particularly loved the Mediterranean Beef Ribs, which was so absolutely soft. We had a fun time getting to know Daniel, which on the dance floor, guests were enjoying themselves, dancing and grooving to the evergreen hits.
