Muntri Mews Residence is a boutique hotel on Muntri Street, George Town. Located right across the street from Muntri Mews, Muntri Mews Residence occupies a late 19th century townhouse that has been restored and beautifully furnished with antiques. It is one of the latest projects by acclaimed hotelier Christopher Ong.
My wife and I were given a tour of Muntri Mews Residence when we visited Chris for dinner at Muntri Mews. His Assistant Systems Manager took us across the road to have a look at this newly refurbished townhouse.

Upon entering, we arrived at the Reception Hall. It is furnished with a long table. The centrepiece of that table is a large Chinese vase of blue porcelain. On the right side of the Reception Hall is a Peranakan-style side cabinet filled with blue-porcelain covered pots, or kham1ceng1.
Muntri Mews Residence is about fifteen feet wide but very long, some 200 feet in length. This huge length affords three inner courtyards or air wells. For the restoration of this building, Chris had to import some granite slabs from China. Some of the original granite slabs from the house had somehow gone missing.

The first courtyard of Muntri Mews Residence has been turned into a lounge area. It has an L-shape sofa and a coffee table with stacks of coffee table books. The bricks of the walls are kept exposed.
The next section of Muntri Mews Residence has a side air-well. During the day, this can be opened to offer natural light. There is a wall cabinet with period tableware, mostly bowls and plates for everyday use.

Muntri Mews Residence offers guests a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. Beyond its heavy front door is a cool, calming oasis. Upstairs are the guest bedrooms fitted with four-poster beds, in-room safe, wifi connectivity and flat-screen television sets.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
