Mydin Wholesale Emporium, Penang Road (6 May 2008)
Mydin Wholesale Emporium (GPS: 5.41879, 100.33149) is a department store in Penang. It presently operates the two department stores on Penang Island, namely the Mydin Wholesale Emporium along
Penang Road and the Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket at
Bukit Jambul Complex.
The store on Penang Road occupies the building that was formerly Cathay cinema (and before that, Queen's). At Bukit Jambul, Mydin occupies a portion of the basement level that was originally Cosmart Hypermarket, and the ground floor, that was originally Looking Good Department Store.
In July 2013, Mydin opened its first upscale outlet at
Gurney Paragon Mall using a new brand name of Sam's Groceria. The outlet offers a wide range of high-end groceries not available at the regular Mydin outlets. On 20 November, 2015 it opened
Mydin Mall in Bukit Mertajam, which at time of opening is the biggest Mydin shopping mall in the country.
