Nanking Road, or
Jalan Nanking in Malay, is one of the roads in the
Seven Streets Precinct of George Town.
Nanking Road was developed at the turn of the 20th century. Before that it was one of the village trails. Nanking Road links
McNair Street to
Brick Kiln Road. It is one of the roads in the Seven Streets Precinct that does not go all the way east to
Bridge Street.

Nanking Road (along with
Peking Street) was an late entry into the Seven Streets Precinct, when Herriot Street, called Pek Tiau Lor, has already been laid and named. Nanking Road was thus known in
Hokkien as Chit Tiau Lor Puah, or Seven-and-a-half Street.
Getting there
Nanking Road is not on the bus route, but
Rapid Penang Bus
302 and
401 serve the bus stop at Brick Kiln Road.
In Other Words ...
Nanking Road is known in
Hokkien as Chit1 Tiau3 Lor3, or in full,
Koay Kanga Kee Chit Tiau Lor, meaning the 7th street after the Prangin Canal.
