Nasi Kandar Kampong Melayu is a famous nasi kandar coffee shop in Air Itam. Located at the ground floor of the Kampung Melayu Flats, the coffee shop has been operating for decades, and is known to most nasi kandar lovers in Penang.

The Kampung Melayu nasi kandar operates in the morning part of the day, from around 6:30 am in the morning until the dishes run out, between 11:00 am to noon. There's a saying that one should make the first meal of the day a hearty one, so this nasi kandar fits the bill (though I am not sure about such a massive input of carbohydrates, in the form of the white rice). Having said that, I have been enjoying nasi kandar for breakfast since small, but have not tried the Nasi Kandar Kampong Melayu until recently.

Nasi Kandar Kampong Melayu is similar to some of the best nasi kandar I have experienced. The wide range of dishes are arrayed in the stall. You just inform or point to what you wanted. My wife and I decided to buy to take home.

Having tried this nasi kandar, I can say it is not bad at all. It has the traditional nasi kandar taste that I have often missed.

Getting there

As mentioned, Nasi Kandar Kampong Melayu operates on the ground floor of the Kampung Melayu Flats, to be exact, at Block 2A. To get there, you can take Rapid Penang bus 204 to Jalan Pisang Rastali. Get down from the bus in front of the flats and ask for directions to Nasi Kandar Kampong Melayu. Any local worth his salt would know where that is!
