Penang Nature Sites list places in Penang where one can get close to nature. This includes the waterfalls as well as parks. Penang is quite fortunate in that despite being one of the biggest cities in Malaysia, it is never too far away from nature. A drive of less than one hour will take you away from the hustle and noise of the city, transporting you to places of greenery and serenity. Much of the west coast of Penang Island is still very much undeveloped. Over here, one can visit fruit farms - a popular activity especially during fruit season.
The most popular waterfall open to the public is the Titi Kerawang falls near Pantai Acheh. The biggest waterfall in Penang is the Botanical Gardens waterfall. However, it is still within the Penang waterworks department, and remains a restricted area where access is controlled. For those who are looking for wildlife, this is quite limited although bird watchers can still find several species of birds in the hills around Air Itam as well as on the mudflats along Jelutong Expressway and Gurney Drive. On the south side of the island is the Penang aquarium with a selection of local fish. The Penang Bird Park is in Seberang Jaya while the Penang Butterfly Farm is in Teluk Bahang. Together, they represent a wide selection of animal life which visitors can admire up close.
