New Lane Hokkien Pai Kut Lor Mee (1 November 2011)
The New Lane Hokkien Pai Kut Lor Mee is the Hokkien Mee stall within Sin Yin Nam Cafe. This stall has been operating at the premises for a few decades. This was where I had pai3 kut3 with Hokkien Mee for the first time in my life, when my dad learn about this stall and took me there with his friends.
I learned that the New Lane Hokkien Pai Kut Lor Mee stall is still operating today, even on the same spot in the coffee shop as I first knew it. The stall operates in the morning part of the day. I understand that there is also a Hokkien Mee here in the evening, but am not sure whether the quality is the same. Nonetheless, it is one of the few Hokkien Mee stalls that my wife likes.
26 July, 2014: Visited Macalister Road with the intention of having Hokkien Mee at Ah Soon Kor, but that stall was closed. After a quick think-through, we decided to go to Sin Yin Nam Cafe and have the Hokkien mee there.
I have to say that the Hokkien Mee at Sin Yin Nam Cafe is very good. I rate it second after the one at Ah Soon Kor, and that's only because I like the mantis prawns at the Ah Soon Kor stall. The Hokkien Mee with spareribs at Sin Yin Nam Cafe, sells at RM5.00. It is cheaper than the RM7.00 I pay at Ah Soon Kor, but still overall, not cheap. (Of course it would cost less if I ditch the spareribs, but I want it.)
Another positive remark regarding the Hokkien Mee at Sin Yin Nam Cafe is that they have been able to maintain consistency. Just look the the two photos below. One was shot in 2013 while the other in 2014. Both look almost the same, like they came from the same order.

This was the first time that we tried the Hokkien Pai Kut Lor Mee here. I have remembered the stall from childhood, and have come here specifically to find out whether "the Hokkien Mee stall with pai kut" is still operating. I was delighted that it is. Learning that it also has lor mee, we ordered one bowl of lor mee and one bowl of Hokkien Mee. This is one of the stalls that have managed to retain its consistency all along.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
