I have seen this Japanese restaurant at Queensbay Mall for many years, and somehow we never made it a point to try it until now. I have been shopping around to try Japanese restaurants in Penang, so on a shopping trip, we decided to have our dinner here.
For our meal, I ordered the Yatai Mura Nabe 屋台村鍋 (RM25), something I have never tried before. It is a spicy seafood hotpot with prawns, squid, scallops and fish, among others. It does not come with rice or any other accompaniment, but it suited me perfectly, as it is always so difficult to find a dish without any rice.
My wife ordered the Pork Steak Set 豚ステーキセツト (RM22.50). This is a set with various accompaniments including rice, tempura, salad, chawanmushi and fruit. But turns out she was not that fond of the grilled pork on account of the oil they use. I told her next time she should try something else that isn't grilled. When it arrived, she started eating, and was half way through the meal before we realised we did not take a photo of it.
Our bill came to RM58.90, includes unlimited refill of green tea. On the whole, I am very satisfied with the Yatai Mura Nabe at Nippon Yataimura.
