North Malaya Cheah Si Chong Soo, Pangkor Road, Penang (30 June 2018)
North Malaya Cheah Si Chong Soo (GPS: 5.42544, 100.31736) is an association of Chinese bearing the surname Cheah. It is located along Pangkor Road in George Town, across from the Chinese Recreation Club.
The North Malaya Cheah Si Chong Soo was formed in 1924, originally bearing the name of the Penang Clans Mutual Assistance Association. In 1934, during the celebration of the Cheah ancestor's birthday, the association changed its name to the Cheah Clan Community. The activities of the association was suspended during the Japanese occupation, and resumed only on 1 January, 1949.
In 1959, the association was renamed the North Malaya Cheah Clan Society, to reflect the geographical composition of its members. A committtee was set up during an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 2 April 1961 with the purpose of raising funds for the association premises. This enabled the association to buy a 30,655 sqft plot of land on which to erect their ancestral hall. On 18 March, 1962, the association adopted the name of North Malaya Cheah Si Chong Soo, or North Malaya Cheah Clan Ancestral Hall.
The present building of the North Malaya Cheah Si Chong Soo dates back to the 1966 Extraordinary General Meeting, where the members resolved to start a new building committee for the construction of a new ancestral temple. Groundbreaking on the project was performed on 20 November, 1972, and the ancestral temple was completed the following year. The inauguration of the clan temple was held on 10 November, 1974, in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee of the association.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
