Armidale is a city in New South Wales, Australia. Founded in 1849, the city is on the Northern Tablelands, in the New England region of Australia, about 467 km (290 mi) from Brisbane and 485 km (301 mi) from Sydney. Armidale today has a population of around 20,000 (2011 estimate).
The Armidale area was originally inhabited by the Anaiwan people, until the arrival of Europeans in the 19th century. The explorer John Oxley is believed to be the first European to arrive here. The settlement was name after Armadale on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, but was misspelled.
A gold rush in the mid 19th century helped the growth of Armidale. It was granted city status in 1885. The main street through the city center is Beardy Street. It has some interested period architecture from colonial times. The Armidale Courthouse is also a beautiful historic building. There are three shopping malls in Armidale, namely Centro Armidale, Armidale Plaza and The East Mall.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
