Narrandera is a town within the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA), a major farming region in New South Wales, Australia. Regarded as the gateway to the MIA region, it has a population of around 4,000 people (2012 estimate).
The first European to arrive in Narrandera was the Australian explorer Captain Charles Sturt, who passed through the district in 1829. The name narrandera comes from the Wiradjuri language for the frill-necked lizard. The town was established on the Murrumbidgee River.

Before the arrival of white settlers, the area was inhabited by the Narrungderra tribe of indigenous people. White settlers brought diseases and hostility that decimated the Aborigines. Following a major clash, there was only one Aborigine survivor.
Today Narrandera, with the neighboring city of Leeton, are at the heart of New South Wales's agricultural region. Narrandera marks the transition between the dry-land area to the east, ideal for cereal crops, sheep and wool production, and the irrigated west, ideal for rice, citrus, wine grapes and potatoes.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
