Richmond is a town to the northwest of Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia. It is administered as part of the City of Hawkesbury. Located on the Hawkesbury River flats, it has a population of around 6,000 people (2012 estimate).
Until the arrival of European settlers, the Richmond area was inhabited by the Darug people. British settlers arrived in 1789. The area was named by Governor Arthur Philip in honor of Charles Lennox, the 3rd Duke of Richmond. It was the third oldest European settlement in Australia after Sydney and Parramatta.
Richmond is the first of five towns established by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1811, the others being Windsor, Castlereagh, Wilberforce and Pitt town. By the mid 20th century, the urban sprawl of Sydney as absorbed Richmond as part of the outer Sydney suburban area. Due to its long history, the town has quite a number of historic buildings that have been listed on the Register of the National Estate.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
