Shepparton is a city on the northern part of Victoria, Australia, near the border with New South Wales. Its population is around 40,000 people (2012 estimate). Shepparton is the fifth largest city in the state.
The Yorta Yorta group of indigenous people, comprising different clans, inhabited the area of Shepparton before the arrival of Europeans. In 1835 Major Thomas Mitchell became the first European to explore the area. This led to a permanent settlement established by squatter Edward Khull. It was taken over by Sherbourne Sheppard, who developed it into a village, and giving it the name "Sheppardton". Separately, in 1850, an entrepreneur named Patrick Macguire set up a punt service there, and the same site also was known as Macguire's Punt.
In 1855, an official survey of the site was carried out, and the name chosen was "Shepparton", shortened from "Sheppardton". It was declared a town in 1860, and a city in 1949.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
