Tasmanian Wilderness is a collective term for a collection of the national parks and reserves in Tasmania. Covering an area of 13,800 square kilometers, or roughly 20% of Tasmania's land area, it is one of the largest conservation areas in Australia. It is also one of the last expanses of temperate rainforest in the world. The Tasmanian Wilderness was made a World Heritage Site during the 6th session of the World Heritage Committee which met at Headquarters in Paris, France, on 13-17 December 1982.

Visiting the Tasmanian Wilderness

Your base for visiting this World Heritage Site is Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. You can make your arrangement from Hobart to select the appropriate tour package or day excursion. A good way to explore Tasmanian Wilderness is by self-driving. Best to rent a car with GPS on board. Tasmania is big, so allow sufficient number of days to explore it.

Getting there

There are flights to Hobart and Launceston, the two main towns on Tasmania, from major cities in Australia.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
