Wagga Wagga is the biggest inland city in New South Wales. Located on the southern part of the state, it is 452 km (281 mi) from Sydney and 456 km (283 mi) from Melbourne. The biggest city nearest Wagga Wagga is Albury, 147 km (91 mi) away.

Wagga Wagga has a population of about 47,000 people (2011 estimate). It is located on both sides of the Murrumbidgee River. It serves as a hub for the surrounding agricultural regions of Riverina and South West Slopes.

The urban centre of Wagga Wagga is boounded by Best Street, Tarcutta Street, the Murrumbidgee River and Sturt Highway. The city is laid out in a grid with the main shopping street being Baylis Street.

The history of European settlement of Wagga Wagga dates back to 1829 with the arrival of Charles Sturt. It was made a village in 1849 and a municipality in 1870. The city experiences a temperate climate. The hottest month is January, with average high temperature of 31.6°C *88.9°F) while the coldest is July, when temperature drops to 2.7°C (36.9°F). July is also the wettest month, with precipitation of 55.3 mm (2.177 in).

Going to Wagga Wagga

By Plane
You can fly daily to Wagga Wagga from Sydney and Melbourne on Regional Express (REX) and QantasLink. The Wagga Wagga Airport (WGA) is about 15 minutes from town and is connected by taxi and airport shuttle bus.

By Train
You can also take the CountryLink train service from Sydney and Melbourne to Wagga Wagga. Journey from Sydney takes 7 hours, departing at 6:50 am and 8:40 pm.

By Bus
Firefly Express and Greyhound Australia have bus services from Sydney and Melbourne to Wagga Wagga.
