Ow Suan Chin Cafe, Dato Kramat, Penang (5 February 2013)


Ow Suan Chin Cafe is a coffee shop in Dato Kramat, Penang. It is located at the convergence of Dato Kramat Road and Western Road. The coffee shop has been there for decades.

I remember going to Ow Suan Chin Cafe with my parents when I saw small. I do not know what was the name of the coffee shop back then, whether it was already known as Ow Suan Chin Cafe. In any case, my mother used to refer to it as the "snar3 kark1 end" coffee shop, an Anglo-Hokkien term meaning coffee shop at the triangular junction.

I note that Ow Suan Chin Cafe still has the stone tables and stools which I remember from small. This was the coffee shop where I tasted "Hong Kong-style chee cheong fun" for the first time.

Getting there

Take the bus to the bus stop in front of the Penang Prison. It is served by Rapid Penang bus 10, 102, 201, 202, 203, 204, 304 and 502.
