Pasar Ramadhan Bayan Baru 2017 (9 June 2017)


It's once again the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan. Even though we are not Muslim, it is a great opportunity for us to enjoy Muslim fare that is available at the various Pasar Ramadhan. On Penang Island, one of the biggest pasar Ramadhan is the one at Bayan Baru. There is in fact an even bigger one in Balik Pulau, but it is too far away for us to go, so the Bayan Baru Pasar Ramadhan is our usual haunt.

We have so far visited the pasar Ramadhan twice. The first time, the area was so congested, I decided to remain in the car while my wife when shopping for Ramadhan fare. This time around, I managed to find a parking spot along Jalan Mayang Pasir 3, so we walked from there to the Ramadhan market.

It was so crowded. Even from far, we can see the throng of people walking towards the area. The number of stalls is pretty much unchanged compared to previous years. This time my wife and I went separate ways, so that we could do our own shopping. I bought barbecued chicken, honey roasted chicken and deep-fried chicken for my dinner (I will have them with vegetables). My wife bought murtabak and drinks. We finished our shopping in less than 15 minutes. It was efficient and fun for us.
