Penang Eurasian AssociationPenang Eurasian Association (1 March 2009)

Penang Eurasian Association (GPS: 5.43393, 100.31019) is the association of the small community of Eurasians in Penang. It is located at The Heritage House at the very end of Eurasian Close (Solok Serani) off Kelawei Road, in Pulau Tikus, Penang.

The Eurasian Association is a testament to the Eurasians that used to have their village, called Kampung Serani, in the Pulau Tikus district. The Eurasians trace their history back to the second wave of Eurasians to settle in Penang around 1811, when they came over with their leader, Father John Pasqual from Phuket, which was under attack from Myanmar.

The Eurasians had made their home in the vicinity of College General (where Gurney Plaza and the upcoming Gurney Paragon are located today). College General, a seminary for Roman Catholic priests, was founded in Ayutthaya, Siam, as the Seminary of Saint Joseph in 1662 by the Society of Foreign Mission of Paris (Missions Étrangères de Paris, MEP), had in the following centuries been relocated a few times to different sites in the Orient, before settling in Pulau Tikus, Penang.
