Penang Institute (GPS: 5.43021, 100.30449), formerly known as
SERI (Socio-Economic and Environment Research Institute) is a Penang-based research institute established in 1997. The institute is housed at a double-storey government bungalow along
Brown Road.
Among the projects undertaken by Penang Institute includes public lectures, a environmental project (ie recycling), socio-economic studies, and others. The publication arm of SERI produces the Penang Economic Month, a 64-page magazine that looks into the issues affecting Penang. It also produces the Penang Economic Outlook report, an annual report providing a view of the health of Penang's economic sectors.

Getting to the Penang Institute
There are no buses stopping on Brown Road. The nearest bus stop is on Burmah Road, which is about a 15-minutes' walk away.
