Penang Island City Council, or
Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang, is the local authority administering the
City of Penang Island. It is the successor to the Municipal Council of Penang Island (Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang. This came about when Penang Island was upgraded from a municipality to a city status on 1 January, 2015, following approval from the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (Kementerian Kesejahteraan Bandar, Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan) on 7 November, 2014.
The Penang Island City Council administers an area of 302.53 square kilometers, which includes Penang Island and its outlying islands such as Pulau Jerejak, Pulau Rimau, Pulau Kendi, Pulau Betong and Lovers' Isle. The area has a population of about 750,000 people. The City Council is presently headed by an appointed mayor, Datuk Patahiyah Ismail, who was sworn in on 31 March, 2015.

The duties and responsibility of the Penang Island City Council encludes waste management, issuance of permits and licenses, property assessment, control over car parks and street-side parking bays, rental of hawker stalls, pest control, disposal of trash, cleaning roads and drains, street lighting, landscaping, property planning (building plans, constructions and demolition permits), and the provision of the
Central Area Transit free bus services.
The Penang Island City Council has its headquarters at
City Hall, though most of its departments occupy
Komtar.

Jurisdiction of Penang Island City Council
The Penang Island City Council is responsible for Penang Island and its outlying isles, whereas the Seberang Perai Municipal Council is responsible for Penang Mainland and its outlying isles.
