Penang Low-Cost Carrier Terminal

Penang Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) (GPS: 5.29151, 100.26327) is a terminal dedicated to low-cost carriers at the Penang International Airport. As of time of writing (August 2018), this terminal is still being planned. Work is expected to start in 2019, and the terminal is expected to be operational in 2022. The main driver for the terminal is the low-cost carrier AirAsia.

The Penang LCCT will occupy a 22-hectare piece of land to the southwest of the main terminal. It will have a built-up area of 35,000 square meter. Making way for the terminal is the MAS Cargo Complex, along with a fuel depot and sewage treatment plant. According to AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, the LCCT will enable AirAsia to increase the number of its plane at the airport at any one time from five to sixteen.

According to Air Putih Assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, who is also the Finance Minister, the Penang International Airport was already serving above its capacity of 6.5 million passengers, having served 7.1 million last year, and the number is expected to increase to 7.8 million this year.
