Penang Road Famous Chendol Stall (28 January 2013)

The
Penang Road Famous Chendol (GPS: 5.41716, 100.33076) is one of the two very famous
cendol stalls along Keng Kwee Street, in
George Town, Penang. It occupies the north side of the street near the junction with Penang Road. As the name suggest, the stall is famous for its
cendol. In addition, it also sells ais kacang, iced chrysanthemum tea and green grass drink.
The "uncle" who sells the cendol, Mr Loh Ewe Seng, said that to get the distinctive taste of his cendol, he uses green bean paste rather than rice flour. The stall is also popular for its ais kacang, particularly for its red beans, which have to be boiled for some seven hours. According to Mr Loh, who now sells the cendol assisted by a few servants, he took over the business from his mother in the 1970s, and have been operating the stall with his wife since then. In addition to selling the cendol at Keng Kwee Street, they also supply cendol to restaurants and other cendol sellers.
