Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul (28 January 2013)

The
Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul (GPS: 5.41711, 100.33072) is one of two very famous
cendol stalls along Keng Kwee Street, near the junction with Penang Road. In an age when many roadside stalls have moved indoors, these two cendol stalls continue to remain as popular as ever within their respective locations.
The Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul is located on the south side of Keng Kwee Street, next to Joo Hooi Cafe, the coffee shop famous for its Penang laksa. In addition to cendol, the stall also sells ais kacang, iced chrysanthemum tea and rosewater, among others. The stall is owned by Mr Tan Chong Kim, who took over the business founded by his father Tan Teik Fung in 1936. From very humble beginnings, the business has grown into an empire, with cendol being distributed to various outlets across the country.
The Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul stall at Keng Kwee Street remains probably the most popular cendol stall in the country, with usually outstation visitors who form a long queue waiting for their bowl. It baffles me, considering this cendol is also available at various outlets of Giant hypermarket.
