Parking in Penang using Penang Smart Parking App

Versi B. Melayu

Penang Smart Parking is an app-based parking system that was introduced to Penang on 19 August, 2019. It replaces the use of parking coupons, which will be gradually phased out and become obsolete after 31 December 2020. This parking facility covers some 36,000 parking lots owned by the Penang State Government through the Penang Island City Council and the Seberang Perai City Council.

Parking Fees

As of 1 January, 2020, the parking fees on Penang Island is 40 sen for every half an hour, and on Seberang Perai, 40 sen for every hour. Parking fees are chargeable from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Mondays to Saturdays. Parking is free on Sundays and on public holidays.

Everywhere in Penang, and especially in George Town, you can find signages like the one shown below stating the required parking charges.

For those without a Smart Phone

For the convenience of visitors as well as those without a smart phone, they can get in touch with an eKupon agent nearby to pay their parking. The eKupon is similar to the existing parking coupons, but is in online format. The list of eKupon agents are shown below.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
