Penang State Art Gallery (21 August 2011)

The
Penang State Art Gallery, or
Balai Senilukis Negeri, is one of the main art galleries in Penang. It was originally housed on the upper floor of the Penang State Museum. As space there was limited, the art gallery relocated to the rear section of Dewan Sri Pinang in 1994.
At Dewan Sri Pinang, the Penang State Art Gallery occupies two levels. The contemporary art gallery takes up a section of the ground floor while the permanent collection is exhibited on Level 3. The permanent collection showcases various artwork by local artists working on various media. Exhibited here include paintings, photographs, sculptures, ceramics, prints and other artforms.
The contemporary gallery showcases contemporary art. This is often temporary exhibits by various artists. One of the more memorable was an art installation called
Kedai Runcit No. 12.
