Pengkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (GPS: 5.39465, 100.36435) is the ferry terminal in Butterworth. Commonly known as the Butterworth Ferry Terminal, it is the jetty for people to take the Penang ferry service that plies between George Town and Butterworth. It is located in Butterworth town and is part of the port area of the Penang Harbour. From the terminal, ferries cross the channel to Pengkalan Raja Tun Uda in George Town. The Butterworth Ferry Terminal is also within a short walking distance from the Butterworth Railway Station and the Butterworth Bus Terminal.
When it was built at the turn of the 20th century, the pier in Butterworth was named Mitchell Pier, after the then Governor of the Crown Colony of the Straits Settlements, Sir Charles Mitchell, who served from 1894 to 1899. Following independence and the reconstruction of the pier, it was renamed Pengkalan Sultan Abdul Halim after the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, who was the fifth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 21 September 1970 to 20 September 1975 and since 13 December 2011 is once again reigning as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the first ever to hold that position twice.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
