Persiaran Mahsuri at Elit Avenue, Bayan Baru (15 December 2019)
Persiaran Mahsuri is one of the main roads in Bayan Baru, Penang. It starts at
Jalan Tengah in the south and ends after Pesara Mahsuri 3 in the north.
Persiaran Mahsuri was built over former paddy fields. It forms intersections with Persiaran Mahsuri 1/Jalan Mayang Pasir 2 and with Jalan Mahsuri. The section between Jalan Tengah and Jalan Mahsuri is lined with Tabebuia trees which are very pretty when they are in full bloom. The area was reclaimed and the ground stablised in the late 1970s, but remained undeveloped until the 1990s, when different parts of the road began to experience development.
Traffic along Persiaran Mahsuri ranges from low to high depending on the time of day. It is busiest during the morning and evening rush hours, though traffic volume here is still lower than that of
Jalan Mahsuri. The road does become congested every time there is an event happening at
PISA (which will soon be known also as
SPICE). Several construction projects are taking place along Persiaran Mahsuri. These when completed are expected to increase the traffic volume.
In November 2012, a
traffic island built on the northern arm of Persiaran Mahsuri caused the residents of neighbouring
Taman Melati Jaya to stage a protest, as the design did not take into account their well-being, preventing them from returning home. This forced a redesign of the traffic island into a
roundabout.
