World Street Food Congress 2017 Jamboree (31 May, 2017)


The World Street Food Congress 2017 Jamboree is a massive food fiesta that took place in Manila from 31 May until 4 June, 2017. For the people of the Philippines who are not in the food industry, this is the component of the World Street Food Congress that generates the most excitement. It was held at the SM Concert Ground, next to SM Mall of Asia, in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

The WSFC17 Jamboree brought together food vendors from various countries of the world to set up stalls showcasing their food at the event. The include chefs and vendors from China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and of course, the host country Philippines.

Stall 1: Evergreen Putu Mayam from Malaysia

Evergreen Putu Mayam sells Putu Mayam, which are string hoppers made of rice flour. This is served with grated coconut and palm sugar. A plate of three pieces is sold for 130 Pesos.

Stall 2: Keng Eng Kee from Singapore

Keng Eng Kee from Singapore sells two types of burger. The Coffee Pork Ribs Burger and the Curry Chicken Burger each go for 290 Pesos.

Stall 3: Chiayi Chenjia Oyster Omelet from Taiwan

Chiayi Chenjia Oyster Omelet is an egg omelet with oysters. A plate sells for 270 Pesos.

Stalls 4 & 5: N.C.C. Catering from Thailand

N.C.C. Catering from Thailand occupies two stalls at the WSFC17. Stall 4 sells Tub Tim Grob, a tapioca starch dessert with water chestnut balls, syrup, coconut milk and crushed ice, for 180 Pesos; and Khao Niaw Ping, a dessert of sticky rice, banana and taro, for 190 Pesos. Stall 5 sells a set comprising Som Tum, a papaya salad, two sticks of Mooping barbecued pork, with sticky rice, for 220 Pesos.

Stall 6: Pasillo De Humo from Mexico

Pasillo De Humo sells two different items: Fish Tacos, which are fish tempura on a wheat tortilla and garnished with burnt chillis, onions and creamy sauce, for 280 Pesos; and Pork Trotters Black Bean Tostada, which are pickled pork trotters, avocado, radish and black beans, on a corn tostada, for 280 Pesos.

Stall 7: Ming's Way from China

Ming's Way offers Beef Brisket Stew from China. This is a braised beef brisket with daikon and Angelica, and served with Baguette, for 250 Pesos.

Stall 8: Coco Kanin by Makansutra Hawkers from Singapore

The Coco Kanin stall by Makansutra Hawkers offers Nasi Lemak, which is coconut rice served with crispy dilis, peanut, fried fish, vegetable, cucumber and sambal. There is an option with fried chicken for 270 Pesos and without fried chicken for 220 Pesos.

Stall 9: Bánh Xèo Miếu Nổi from Vietnam

Bánh Xèo Miếu Nổi sells two items: the namesake Bánh Xèo, which are Vietnamese crispy rice mung bean pancakes with a filling of greens and seafood, and a fish sauce dip, for 280 Pesos, and the Vienamese Banana Sweet Cake, for 180 Pesos.

Stall 10: Mangla Chaat from India

Mangla Chaat sells Aloo Tikki, an Indian croquette of boiled potatoes, grapes and radish, for 200 Pesos.

Stall 11: DK Litti from India

DK Litti sells two items: the Litti Chokha, which is bread roasted on wood fire with curry, brinjal and onion, for 180 Pesos; and the Litti Chicken, which is the same thing with the inclusion of chicken, for 270 Pesos.

Stall 12: Satti Tausug from Davao, Philippines

Satti Tausug offers Junay with Boiled Egg and Grilled Chicken with black grated coconut and spicy rice, for 260 Pesos.

Stall 13: Thrunks from Davao & Chef Andres Nagion from Bicol, Philippines

This stall is jointly managed by Thrunks from Davao and Chef Andres Nagion from Bicol. It offers three items: Pork Monggo, which is soft stewed pork trotters, manggo (mung beans), eggplant and savoury rice, for 240 Pesos; Bicol Express Risotto, comprising rice, chilli, chicaron, Pork Liempo (grilled pork belly), coconut milk and greens, for 260 Pesos; and Pinangat Burgers, which are Malungay Pandesal, pork Pinangat, taro leaves and slider, for 250 Pesos.

Stall 14: Café Fleur and Taldawa from Pampanga, Philippines

This is another jointly operated stall, between Café Fleur and Taldawa, both from Pampanga. They offer three items: Goat Sinigang, which is goat meat sinigang with squash leaves and wild starfruit, for 230 Pesos; Sisig Paella, which is pan-roasted rice with pork cheek, ear, belly chicharrón with soy lime and chilli, for 230 Pesos; and Kare Kare Palabok, which is rice noodles, Bagnet (crispy pork belly), peanut stew, shrimps, smoked fish and Bagoong (a type of Filipino condiment), for 230 Pesos.

Stall 15: Fresh Start Organics and Sarsa Group from Bacolod, Philippines

Yet another jointly operated Filipino stall, this one between Fresh Start Organics and Sarsa Group, both from Bacolod. They offer two items: Piaya, which are flour pancakes - one serving of 1 chocolate and 2 moscovado sugar pancakes for 180 Pesos; and Chicken Inasal with Pita Bread, which is BBQ Chicken Inasal with marinade sauce, pita bread and greens, for 250 Pesos.

Stall 16: Rafael's La Cocina Del Sul Stall from Iloilo, Philippines

From Iloilo in the Philippines come Rafael's La Cocina Del Sur, which offers two items at the Jamboree. They are La Paz Batchoy, which is Batchoy Miki noodles with a rich stock, pork, offal and greens, for 200 Pesos; and Beef Tongue Lengua Con Setas De Oliva Gua Bao, which is Beef Tongue in the Kalderetta Style and Kua Bao, for 220 Pesos.

Stall 17: Lanie's Batac and Herencia from Ilocos, Philippines

Hailing from Ilocos are Lanie's Batac and Herencia, jointly operating this stall that sells three items: Pinakbet Pizza which is a thin crust pizza with tomatoes, okra (ladies' fingers), sitaw (French beans), cheese, eggplant and ampalaya (bitter gourd) for 260 Pesos; Longganisa & Bagnet Pizza, which is a thin crust pizza with Mozzarella cheese and onions, for 320 Pesos; and Cheese Empanada, which is a crispy pastry with papaya, egg, cheese and minced meat, for 150 Pesos.

Stall 18: 102 House from China

102 House is a stall from China at the Jamboree. It offers Chinese-style Black Vinegar Trotters with rice, for 300 Pesos.

Stall 19: Big Brother Hong Kong Cuisine Restaurant from China

Big Brother Hong Kong Cuisine Restaurant offers three dessert items: Rice Dumpling with Candied Chrysanthemum, which is mochi dumplings with candied chrysanthemum in a light syrup, for 220 Pesos; Red Bean Soup with Aged Tangerine Peel for 180 Pesos; and Ginger Cow Milk Custard, which is a curd in ginger juice, for 200 Pesos.

Stall 20: Alhambra Padang Satay from Singapore

The Alhambra Padang Satay stall at the Jamboree offers two items: Mee Goreng with Lamb, which is fried egg noodles with mutton, greens, peas and sambal, for 240 Pesos; and Lamb Roti John, which is half a pan-roasted Baguette with mutton, spices, eggs and onion, for 250 Pesos.

Year of the Fish Food Cart stall from the United States offers battered crispy Cod Fish and Chips with Tartar Sauce, for 360 Pesos.

Stall 22: Bánh Bèo Bích Liên from Vietnam

Bánh Bèo Bích Liên offers a set of two items, the Bánh Bèo, which is shrimp roll with onions and fish sauce, and Bánh Loc, which is cassava flour, shrimp, pork fat and fish sauce, for 250 Pesos.

Stall 23: Northern BBQ Team by Meatsmith & Friends from Germany

The Northern BBQ Team by Meatsmith & Friends stall sells two German sausage items: the Bratwurst at 250 Pesos and the Curry Wurst at 260 Pesos.

Stall 24: Hong Kong Street Old Chun Kee from Singapore

Hong Kong Street Old Chun Kee offers two items from Singapore: Salted Egg Pork + Fries, which is chilli fried pork ribs with salted egg sauce and fries, for 270 Pesos; and Cereal Chicken + Fries, which is cereal cooked fried chicken with spices and fries, for 250 Pesos.

Stall 25: Kushikatsu Daruma from Japan

Kushikatsu Daruma from Japan offers Kushikatsu or deep-fried tempura of prawns or beef and Tsukune, tempura chicken meatballs, and pork intestine as well as sweet potato. The 3-stick item go for 200 Pesos while the 5-stick option was priced at 280 Pesos.
