Dinner at Pho Viet (24 April 2019)

It is a joy to pay a visit to Pho Viet, one of the few authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Penang. The restaurant along Beach Street has been operating for a number of years, and has become a popular place for the local Vietnamese community to enjoy Vietnamese food the way it is made back home.
My wife and I were delighted to be invited to a meal here on 24 April, 2019. We were warmly greeted by the owner, Grace Vu, who spent some time to chitchat with us. The business was very good that evening, so Grace had to excuse herself to attend to the steady stream of patrons, who occupied all the tables in the large restaurant.
Before our dinner began, we had the opportunity to admire some of the paintings by famous Vietnamese artists. These hang on the wall in the inner dining area.

We had a feast of authentic Vietnamese items that evening. They are representative of the most popular dishes you can get in Vietnam itself, albeit with some local fusion to it. We started our dinner with the Fresh Spring Roll Combo, which is a platter of springrolls with rice noodle and a variety of meat stuffings.

This was followed by the Deep-fried Spring Roll, which is very similar to Chinese springrolls.

Next is the customary
pho, the namesake of the restaurant. This is similar to our local beef koay teow soup, with the inclusion of spring onions.

The next item is Noodle Set served with Prawn Paste Sauce. I enjoy all the ingredients, but I could not get used to the prawn paste sauce. It is still too salty and pungent for my liking. I had to dip the ingredients into the springroll dip instead. My wife however did not have such a problem in enjoying the prawn paste sauce.

The final item was Seafood Cocktail, which is a cocktail of various seafood with fruits. It is a refreshing addition to our meal.
