Me, My Camera & Malaysia filming at Muka Head

Off we go to Muka Head! L to R: Philip Teh, Michelle Chan, Andrew Boey (23 August 2012)

On 23 August 2012 I had the privilege of joining TV celebrity Andrew Boey in shooting Me, My Camera & Malaysia, an episode of the upcoming travel series Me and My Camera. I was pretty excited to be Andrew's guest for the episode. I met up with him at the headquarters of the Penang National Park and we headed off for Muka Head.

Me & My Camera is a travel series slated to be aired on TV in 2013. In this series, Andrew visits different destinations where he meets up with various guests and engage in photography activities. Among his crew members include his assistant Michelle and filming crew members Billy Jun, Philip Teh and Weng Hong.

The day had been rather wet, but by the time we arrived at the Penang National Park, the sun has come out. By the end of the day we were blessed with blue skies. But for now the sea was a calm sheet of silver.

Upon arrival at Monkey Beach, we discovered to our chagrin that the Muka Head Lighthouse closed at 3 o'clock. We would not be able to make it on time. Nonetheless we trekked up the hill path to the lighthouse. The climb was quite tough, particularly for the crew, as they had to carry the heavy camera gear.

It's an uphill climb to Muka Head, and we made it look easier than it actually was! (23 August 2012)

Unfortunately the caretaker was pretty adamant not to let us in. As a result, we were forced to shoot the lighthouse from the outside, and Andrew taught he how to shoot through the fence using a telephoto lens and a narrow depth of field. It's one of the instances when having a photography expert on hand comes in handy.

By the time we left the Muka Head Lighthouse, the sun was setting. We hurried down the hill so as not to get stuck in the jungle once darkness falls. The boat we hired was already waiting to pick us up when we arrived at Monkey Beach.

Darkness was creeping up on us when we got back to Teluk Bahang. We hurried back to George Town where I joined the crew for a dinner at Northam Beach Cafe.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
