Presgrave Street Ghaut, George Town, Penang (6 February 2013)
Presgrave Street Ghaut is a minor road in
George Town, Penang. It originated as an extension to
Presgrave Street and is counted as within the
Seven Streets Precinct. Today the street connects
Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway on the eastern end with the intersection with
Bridge Street and Presgrave Street on the other.
There used to be a path continuing from Presgrave Street Ghaut to
Koay Jetty, a now defunct clan jetty on the southern part of the Penang Harbour. The jetty was demolished in 2006 to make way for the construction of the
Sri Saujana Apartments of
Macallum Street Ghaut.
As with Bridge Street, Presgrave Street Ghaut is a working-class neighbourhood. Most of the shophouses here are engaged in the metalwork industry. Foundries, auto mechanics and workshops lining the street.
